There's One For You, Nineteen For Me

 March 28, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

There's One For You, Nineteen For Me

With the implementation of his illogical 25% tariff on automobiles and automobile parts,

Donald Trump has now become one of the worst tax raising presidents in modern history.

The list is as stunning as it is unbelievable:

25% on all Canadian and Mexican goods that aren't USMCA compliant or have other

exemptions.

10% on Canadian energy imports (mostly oil, but might apply to electricity from Ontario and

British Columbia).

10% on Canadian potash (a water soluble potassium salt used as a fertilizer).

20% on all Chinese imports.

25% on all steel and aluminum imports, regardless of source, no exceptions.

These are just the ones that are in effect. There are others, mostly retaliatory escalations or

off the top of the head random numbers thrown out in a fit of pique (the 200% on European

Union wine is a prime example) that have either been rescinded or never implemented.

Trump supporters claim that this is in an attempt to, "bring jobs back to America". To that, we

ask one simple thing. Look around your home. Check labels. For every product that you find

that is not made here, ask yourself this one simple question. Is it possible to make this item in

the US and still have it cost what I paid for it?

Remember, in this trade war, supply chains matter. Some of those auto parts tariffed cross

borders multiple times. That potash used as a fertilizer could be used on food that ends up in

steel cans. The US steel industry is a shadow of its former self. That is not solved overnight.

Tariffs are taxes. Taxes that will be paid by American consumers. That also has no exceptions.

Wisconsin Deserves "None Of The Above”

 March 21, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Wisconsin Deserves "None Of The Above”

As we approach another election that pits the best of who cares against themselves, The

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) would like to call on the Wisconsin Election

Commission; the Assembly Committee on Campaigns and Elections; and the Senate

Committee on Shared Revenue, Elections, and Consumer Protection to make adjustments to

the Wisconsin ballots to allow for a, "none of the above" option for all races.

The option appears on the primary ballots of several states and has been an effective tool for

voters to voice their displeasure in the quality, or lack there of, of candidates for office. A

protest vote, in whatever form, shows that a voter cares enough about the process to vote as

well as their frustration with their choices. The United Kingdom has had the protest vote for

years in the Monster Raving Loony Party. Despite efforts by the UK officials to keep them off

the ballot, they persevere on the strength of a determined group of citizens who demand

better candidates.

With the additional barriers placed in front of smaller parties that restrict ballot access,

wouldn't it make more sense to give their voters an option instead of disenfranchising them?

Actions Have Consequences

 March 11, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Actions Have Consequences

In a move that surprised nobody who has been paying attention, the Independent Electricity

System Operator (IESO) under direction of Ontario Premier Doug Ford imposed a 25%

surcharge on all electricity exported to the United States on Monday. The province provides

electricity to around 1.5 million customers in New York, Michigan, and Minnesota directly and

potentially other states as the electricity provided is sometimes resold to neighboring states.

The surcharge is the latest move in the trade war that was initiated by President Trump

earlier this year. The surcharge is expected to cost US based customers a combined

$400,000 a day. British Columbia Premier David Eby is considering a similar move.

“Until these tariffs are off the table, until the threat of tariffs is gone for good Ontario will not

relent. We will not back down. Pausing some tariffs and making last-minute exemptions won’t

cut it. We need to end the chaos once and for all. Until then Ontario will keep up the fight.

We will apply maximum pressure to maximize our leverage.” - Ontario Premier Doug Ford

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) once again calls on President Trump to end this

tax war while most Americans can still recover from the damage he has done to our

economy and reputation.

Happy Tariff Day

 March 4, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Happy Tariff Day

As promised, US President Donald Trump has imposed his Draconian, irrational tariffs on Canada, Mexico, and China, thereby imposing the largest tax increase on Americans in decades.

Despite assurances of the administration, tariffs are taxes that are not paid for by the country on which it is imposed, but by American consumers in the form of increased costs on a wide range of products from clothing to fuel to even food. Additionally, there is no guarantee that any other country will choose to expose their goods to these tariffs. Rising and growing economies like those in India and Brazil would likely welcome new trade partners with open arms.

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) continues to believe that free trade, devoid of excessive, punitive tariffs, is fair trade. Limiting demand by artificially inflating prices is a path towards even more inflation that harms all Americans.
