Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Decries Continued Exclusion of Candidates
The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) continues to be disappointed by the Commission on Presidential Debates and the mainstream media outlets by their decision to not include third party and independent candidates in their Vice Presidential debate. There are more than two points of view on the American political spectrum and they have the right to have their message on display alongside the two "major" parties.
The freedom to choose what is best for themselves is a fundamental right of every American. By not including all candidates in debates, they are deprived of the ability to make that choice. The justification often given for excluding third party candidates is that they have no chance to win, so they shouldn't be included in debates or even be on a ballot. By that criteria, Republican candidates should not be represented in the 4th Congressional District of Wisconsin races, because they have no chance to win. Nobody will seriously make that argument, so why should we make it for third party candidates?
It should not matter if a candidate gets one vote or ten million. Their views and policies deserve to be heard by the voters just as much as the "major" candidates. By excluding them, the American voters are not being allowed to make an informed decision about who represents them in government.
