Second Anniversary Of The Three Day Operation

 February 28, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Second Anniversary Of The Three Day Operation

Earlier this week, the world "celebrated" the start of the third year of the Russian three day "special military operation". In the years since, billions of dollars have been dumped into another conflict that has devolved into yet another forever war. With no real sign of a peaceful solution and a fresh round of war profiteering, it seems likely that, at best, we have added one more money pit to the roster that includes the Sahel region of Africa and the Middle East as a whole.

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) renews its call for the end of all armed conflicts and the chaos and disharmony they cause. Nobody wins when one party bullies, attacks, and steals from another, be it individuals or nation states. It is not the job of the United States to be the world police nor see the rest of the world as a piggy bank.

Taxation Increases Are Never The Answer

February 21, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Taxation Increases Are Never The Answer

In a proposal floated earlier this week, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers proposed, among other ideas, a new tax rate for the highest earners in the state. Citing increased revenue generated, the governor's misguided attempt to tax more so he can spend more will end up resulting in the state increasing debt.

Back in 2012, in an attempt to raise revenue and combat debt, French President François Holllande and Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault announced an increase of their top marginal tax rate to 75%. It was projected to raise 30 billion Euros while in reality it raised less than half of that before being quietly rescinded some time later.

What France learned then and what Evers will learn now is that when you try to tax the one class of people who can, and did, relocate to find a better tax climate, your tax revenue will decrease and fall short of projections while you are saddled with the increase in spending.

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) understands that the real problem in Wisconsin is that the government spends too much, not that they tax too little. The LPWI asks that the governor find ways to economize and save money before deciding to spend even more and raise taxes that are likely going to be uncollected.

Tariffs And You: How Trade Barriers Affect Wisconsin

 February 14, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tariffs And You: How Trade Barriers Affect Wisconsin

Tariffs and trade disputes have been a subject of many debates over the past few months. What is often overlooked is just how these barriers affect the everyday citizen in Wisconsin. Here are just a few examples of how increased trade costs could affect Wisconsin.

•Several times a year, steel shipments (mostly from Belgium) arrive at the Port of Milwaukee destined for Wisconsin businesses. The new steel tariff will increase costs to these businesses by 25%.

•Wisconsin has become a significant exporter of soybeans. The new DeLong Company terminal at the Port of Milwaukee was constructed to take advantage of this and make exporting easier. Retaliatory tariffs on United States exports could negatively affect Wisconsin's soybean farmers.

•Despite the downturn of manufacturing in Wisconsin, the state still exports over $10 billion in manufactured goods. These producers are doubly hit as they will face the steel tariffs as well as retaliatory export tariffs.

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) believes that free trade is fair trade. Trade wars only hurt consumers. Costs of production, including tariffs, are passed down until there is nobody else to pass it down to, and the consumer bears that burden. Inflation will never get under control if we continue to artificially inflate goods.

More Money Is Not How You Solve Education In Wisconsin

 February 7, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

More Money Is Not How You Solve Education In Wisconsin

In an interview published this week, Wisconsin State Senator Chris Larson, member of the Senate Committee on Education, proposed throwing a vast majority of the state's budget surplus into the failing education system.

"So the numbers, while it’s stunning — $4 billion to be able to meet the investment for our public schools — that’s also the amount of money that we have in our state surplus. So this is the time to do it. There is no cheap way out of this." - Wisconsin State Senator Chris Larson

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) would like to point out that while the Wisconsin public school system is routinely failing our students, the private school system is flourishing, producing much better educated children at a significantly lower cost. Therefore, it is the position of the LPWI that the State of Wisconsin should begin the transition away from the failing public school model to a private school system.

Wisconsin's current school choice model can and should be the blueprint for the future of education in Wisconsin. It will not be easy, and there will be bumps in that road, but in the long run we will produce better educated students at a much better price to the taxpayers. That is how we make the future a better place for all of our kids.
