Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Demands Less Theft

 January 31, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Demands Less Theft

In their recent, revised estimates, Wisconsin's Legislative Fiscal Bureau (LFB) has increased their estimation in regards to the state's budget surplus. In the report released earlier this week, the LFB now expects a surplus in the 2024-25 fiscal year of $4.27 billion. This is due, in part, to an increase of tax collection estimates. That collection estimate is up to $894.3 million.

"Our analysis indicates that for the three-year period, aggregate general fund tax collections will be higher ($894.3 million) than those of the November 20, 2024, report ($239.6 million in 2024-25, $355.2 million in 2025-26, and $299.5 million in 2026-27)." - LFB report from January 29, 2025

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) insists that the Wisconsin Legislature address these estimations. Reducing tax rates now would allow all Wisconsin taxpayers to keep their money instead of having to go through the bureaucratic nightmare that is getting refunded by the Legislature after the fact. Not only will it allow the taxpayers to use that retained wealth in a timely manner, it is much more cost efficient by not having to involve the bureaucratic leviathan in Madison.

Let the taxpayers keep their money so they can survive the inflationary mess that has been hoisted upon them by governmental incompetence.

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Denounces New Gun Regulation Proposals

 January 28, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Denounces New Gun Regulation Proposals

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI), in the strongest terms, rejects the proposals from Governor Evers in his State of the State address for expanded gun laws. The "gun show loophole" that the governor alluded to in his address is false and has been proven as much multiple times via hidden camera investigations. The red flag laws that are so often proposed, and sometimes passed, by liberal politicians criminalize a citizen even when they have committed no crime and illegally confiscates their property. Even if it didn't go against several provisions of the Constitution of both the United States and the state of Wisconsin, it violates the basic foundations of civilized society.

Additionally, criminals do not care about laws. We only need to look at Wisconsin's intoxicated driving laws. On a regular basis, we see reports of someone who has been arrested on their fourth, fifth, sixth, or more DUI charge. The inner cities are plagued by career criminals who have been convicted of felonies and have had their rights to own firearms restricted and are frequently re-arrested in possession of weapons. New layers of laws will not prevent that. All they do is place unconstitutional barriers in the way of law abiding citizens from exercising their rights.

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Applauds Ulbricht Pardon

 January 23, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Applauds Ulbricht Pardon

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) celebrates the full pardon of Ross Ulbricht, a decision that restores justice for a man whose case has long symbolized government overreach and the criminalization of innovation. Ulbricht, the founder of the Silk Road online marketplace, was sentenced to double life imprisonment without parole for non-violent crimes. His punishment has been widely criticized as an affront to the principles of due process, proportional justice, and individual freedom. LPWI welcomes his pardon as a victory for liberty and human dignity. The pardon is a campaign promise fulfilled by President Trump, who pledged to do so after tireless advocation from many in the Libertarian Party.

However, the work is far from over. LPWI emphasizes that countless other individuals have suffered persecution for exposing government abuses or challenging unjust systems. Figures like Edward Snowden, Julian Assange, and Roger Ver remain targets of vindictive prosecution for their efforts to reveal truth and empower individuals. The LPWI calls on state and federal leaders to extend justice to whistleblowers and other non-violent figures who have been unfairly prosecuted.

This moment should inspire a broader movement to reform the legal system, ensuring it upholds fairness and protects those who challenge the status quo. LPWI will continue to advocate for justice and the rights of all individuals in the fight for a freer, more transparent society.

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Calls For Liberty

 January 21, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Calls For Liberty

As a President is sworn in along with a new congress and state legislature, the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) hopes that they will work to reduce the tax burden on all people, reduce the size and scope of government, return the power to individuals, and work for peace, as many of them claimed on the campaign trail.

When they inevitably don't, through increased bureaucracy, continued excessive taxation, assaults on the free market, authoritarian legislation, and imperialistic claims on sovereign territory of other nations, we will be there to call them out and hold them accountable!

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Laments New Bureaucracy in Madison

 January 17, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Laments New Bureaucracy in Madison

Earlier this week, Governor Evers signed an executive order creating another layer of bureaucracy in Madison by creating the Office of Violence Prevention. This agency appears, at best, to be nothing more than a pass through gatekeeper, wasting taxpayer money dictating who gets what taxpayer funds with little, if any, voter accountability. At worst, it could very well be the worst protection racket, demanding ideological fealty before funds are granted.

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) has and will always oppose unnecessary expansion or creation of unneeded bureaucracy. There are few things in our lives that are worse than government problems, and many of them are government solutions.

Instead of demanding government protect us, perhaps we should return to protecting ourselves. Bring a meal to the family down the street who is struggling. Shovel the walk for the elderly couple who can't move as well anymore. Volunteer at the school to help make sure that everyone entering the doors belongs there. It sure beats the alternative.

Homelessness Solutions Come From Citizens, Not Government

 January 10, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Homelessness Solutions Come From Citizens, Not Government

Homelessness rates are beginning to climb again as the costs of living have been skyrocketing, in part, due to government policies and actions. Unfortunately, the same agencies that are responsible for these policies are also the ones making it harder for volunteer organizations to help.

As with many other obligations we have abdicated to government, a top down solution with coerced funds is not the way to go. Additionally, local and state governments have passed laws making helping the homeless difficult if not impossible. From laws making homelessness essentially illegal (sleeping in public spaces, panhandling, etc.) to zoning laws preventing landowners from allowing encampments on their property, it seems like it is easier for government to punish the homeless than it is to actually address the root causes. The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) calls on local officials throughout the state to ease or eliminate these laws and let people help people in whatever ways they can.

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Desires An End To Line Item Vetoes

 January 7, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Desires An End To Line Item Vetoes

As we begin a new session in the Wisconsin Legislature, the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) would like to see both sides set aside partisanship and end Wisconsin's line item veto power for the governor once and for all by passing, again, the Constitutional Amendment passed by the previous legislature.

Any power that sidesteps proper checks and balances is a power that should not be wielded by any segment of government, let alone one person that happens to reside in the Governor's Mansion. Created in 1927 to help streamline the budgeting process, the line item veto has been abused multiple times since Governor Lucey slashed 80% of transportation funding in 1973 by using that power to hack off a number in the budget.

What is the point of having a legislatively created budget when one person can create 400 years of funding with a couple swipes of a pen? It takes the power out of the hands of the people and places it in the hands of one person. The Legislature must continue the process to finally amend the State Constitution and end this power.

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Calls For Fundamental Changes To Government

 January 3, 2025

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Calls For Fundamental Changes To Government

As we begin the 119th Congress in Washington, The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) would like to remind the 100 Senators and 435 voting Representatives that the voters this past November voted for liberty and freedom. They chose less government, less bureaucracy, and less crushing taxation.

"It is evident from the state of the country, from the habits of the people, from the experience we have had on the point itself, that it is impracticable to raise any very considerable sums by direct taxation. Tax laws have in vain been multiplied; new methods to enforce the collection have in vain been tried; the public expectation has been uniformly disappointed, and the treasuries of the States have remained empty." - Alexander Hamilton; Federalist #12, November 27, 1787

From the birth of our country to today, more taxation always results in less wealth and prosperity among the people, yet all levels of government require more and more taxation. Government grows exponentially while the people's worth diminishes. It is time to break that cycle. Small tax cuts for friends and tiny cuts to bureaucracy will not suffice. Wholesale changes need to come from Congress, not new Executive branch agencies.
