Libertarian Party of Wisconsin Questions Court Candidates

Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) officials, as a service to the public, sent a questionnaire to all four registered candidates for the one open seat on the Wisconsin State Supreme Court. With only two of the candidates to advance after the Tuesday, February 21st, state-wide spring primary, only candidate Judge Jennifer Dorow responded to the LPWI’s questionnaire. The two-top vote getting candidates in the primary will advance to the state’s spring general election in April. Voters can view the questionnaire and Judge Dorow’s answers on the party’s website, at: https://lpwi.org/2023/02/15/judge-jennifer-dorow-questionnaire/ .

The questionnaire asked all the candidates to state such things as their judicial philosophy, and how they will make rulings; their stance on the practice of judicial activism, or where judges can create new law with their rulings without legislative oversight or voter consent; and other questions on role models, interpretations of original law, etc.

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin supports the individual’s right to live their own life free of unreasonable government obstructions and coercion; the people’s right to own and dispose of the property they have earned by their hard labor; and to pursue their own happiness that should never harm other free people or steal the property of others. The LPWI believes in an independent judiciary that protects the rights of all people to live free of the forceful coercion used by governments. As 18th Century legal commentator William Blackstone wrote, “...the public good is in nothing more essentially interested, than in the protection of every individual's private rights,…”

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Libertarian Party to Co-Sponsor Peace Rally in Milwaukee

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI), in partnership with the People’s Party and the Wisconsin Green Party, will co-conduct an anti-war peace march in Milwaukee, Sunday, February 19th. The rally of peace advocates will take place from 11 AM to 11:20 AM, near the Peace Action office building at 1001 E. Keefe Avenue and up to N. Weil Street.

For the peace, amity, and safety for all people, this coalition of common hopes to stop aggression, militarism, violence, and war—around the globe—unites the attendees in the philosophy and practice of non-coercive, non-violent politics and policies by governments everywhere. As the rally happens on the street outside, Peace Action will show a simulcast live-stream of the “Rage Against the War Machine” anti-war peace rally in Washington, D.C., also hosted by the Libertarian Party USA.

For its part, the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin, chaired by Operation Iraqi Freedom-veteran and Wisconsin National Guard-veteran, Mr. Jacob VandenPlas, requires all members to sign a pledge that states, “I certify that I oppose the initiation of force to achieve political or social goals.”

While absolutely against unprovoked aggression by all nation-states, in its principles and philosophy, the LPWI asserts the rights of all individuals and communities to the acts and means of self-defense, to protect their families and homes from any threats, violence, hostility, and criminal acts from wherever they originate. In a world rapidly engaging in its self-destruction through conflict and war-centered politics, the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin stands with its peace rally partners hoping to provide a united effort to end militarism and war, and bring peace on earth and good-will toward all humankind.

End the Income Tax, Wisconsin Libertarians Say

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

End the Income Tax, Wisconsin Libertarians Say

Responding to Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers and his call to raise state spending, and increase shared revenue, by at least $1.3 Billion, the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin (LPWI) Press Office issued a statement over the weekend, calling for cuts to the current state budget and for ending the state and Federal income taxes.

Starting from the premise that “the power to tax involves the power to destroy,” as said by the US Supreme Court (McCulloch v. Maryland, 1819), and that it can endanger private enterprise and impoverish citizens, the LPWI Press Office quoted the party platform:

We [the LPWI] advocate phasing out taxes on incomes, personal property, and real property, along with corresponding decreases in the size of government. We advocate phasing out taxes on corporations and businesses.”

The explanation of the platform went on to say:

The two party system—BOTH Democrats and Republicans—believe that government exist to do or support all one thing or all of the other, to benefit their own side, of whoever holds the power,” said LPWI Press Secretary Tim Krenz. “If the present governments can only survive and act by massive taxation on incomes for the benefit of certain interests, it hurts the average person, the common person most. Income taxes come only with the threat of force, itself a fraud committed against free people.

Consensual fees for local governments and services, if required, will prevent the evil that all governments can do when they destroy freedoms, through forced taxation or other means.”
